Cover of book Seeds of Change

The library is proud to support the Menlo Park City School District’s Life Skills and Culture initiative, which teaches students about a life skill each month by pairing the skill with a special book. Teachers share the books in the classroom and the library creates a display for the featured book, along with a booklist that supports the theme. We hope you will borrow the featured books as well as other titles that we recommend.

This month´s life skill is Respect and the featured book is Seeds of Change: Planting a Path to Peace by Jen Cullerton Johnson. This story presents the life of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmentalist Wangari Maathai, a female scientist who made a stand in the face of opposition to women's rights and her efforts to restore Kenya's ecosystem by planting millions of trees.

See this list for more books about respect.
